Story Behind The Name

When our Victorian neighborhood celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1997, the program included a silent auction of donated items. My bid won the Shaker press featured in my logo. Although its provenance is not certain, its simple design and sturdy construction give my press an appeal that favors a Shaker link. It is one of my favorite book making tools.

Incidentally, the Shakers had a brief tenure here in Indiana, but my first awareness of them came when I grew up in Troy, New York. In those halcyon days I fished summers and skated winters on Ann Lee Pond named for the woman who founded the Shaker sect, whose first settlement she established in Watervliet, New York in 1776. So my Shaker Press binds my past to my present and, with your favor for my work, will now find me well bound for the future.
